Abstract
The Maritime Operational Research Team (MORT) was tasked by the Director of Maritime Force Development to work with the Directorate of Maritime Strategy to conduct studies to assess and analyze fleet mixes and asset capability options. In order to undertake this work, MORT developed the Tyche modelling tool capable of comparing the effectiveness of various fleet options in meeting the demand of a future threat environment. In order to effectively conduct this operational research, an input/output (I/O) data model was developed. This model was resident in Microsoft Excel and Word documents, which were managed manually. However, the model grew to a size that exceeded the ability to efficiently manage the data in these document formats. As such, best practice methodologies were applied to efficiently manage the I/O data required by the Tyche modeling tool and store them in a database. This report documents the development and functionality of the data management system.
