Abstract
An Orenda 8 gas turbine engine was subjected to blast waves. The inlet of the engine was loaded with blast waves of up to 13 psi overpressure. Only minor effects, such as small transient changes in engine speed and tailpipe temperature, were observed. This exhaust of the engine was loaded with blast waves of up to 20 psi overpressure. At low engine speeds, blast pressures of about 10 psi were sufficient to cause compressor stall and combustion chamber flame-out. The exhaust bullet buckled under similar pressures while the engine was operating at high speeds.
