Abstract
This report provides a state-of-the-art review of Requirements Engineering. Requirements Engineering (RE) is a discipline of system engineering and software engineering. Its importance has been recognized for many years but still there are many ambiguities and difficulties when used in practice. The review of literature explores the current practices and trends of the main research areas of RE, notably the elicitation, analysis, specification and traceability of the requirements. The new emerging concept of “goal-orientation” is introduced and finally requirements development approaches, methods and tools are briefly discussed. The results of this study aim to provide inputs to the definition of a requirements engineering process for the Department of National Defence (DND) Capability Engineering Process (CEP).
