Abstract
This work was conducted under Work Breakdown Element (WBE) 15eo04 “Viable GNC concepts development” and focuses on the guidance issue. Launcher guidance necessitates a way to predict launcher trajectory until final orbit. To do so, the translation equations of the launcher are required. These equations, called 3DoF equations of motion, are developed in this report. There are three different sets of equations, one using polar coordinates, one using Cartesian coordinates and one using a full quaternion. The equations to go from one representation to the others are also developed as well as those to get the orbital parameters from polar coordinates. Based on accuracy and computational load, the results of each set of equations are compared together. The objective of all these developments is to obtain a fully functional simulator of the translation of a launcher around the Earth to predict the orbit at injection.
