Abstract
A total of eight different AMMPHS prototype mandible systems were assessed as part of a SIHS helmet trial held at Canadian Forces Bases (CFB) Valcartier from September 28 to October 9, 2009. Twelve participants were required to undertake a battery of human factors tests while wearing the current in-service helmet (CG634) or one of the AMMPHS prototype mandibles in a blocked repeated measures design. During each test, the order of conditions was only partially balanced due to the lack of available resources and mandible prototypes. Human factors tests included assessments of fit, comfort, range of motion, field of view, performance of select battle tasks, and equipment, vehicle and clothing compatibility. Data collection included anthropometric measurements, range of motion measurements, field of view measurements, questionnaires, focus groups, live fire performance measures, and Human Factors (HF) observer assessments.
