Abstract
This report covers the Phase III tasks of the 3-phase study on alternate marine system materials and cost analysis. The purpose of the current study was to demonstrate how a cost analysis study is conducted using the cost analysis tool identified in Phase II. A life cycle cost model of selected seawater system components was built for the demonstration. The selected components included a cooling unit (heat exchanger), a circulating pump and piping. The Isograph Availability Workshop software package was used to build the model and conduct the analysis. The model was built using a methodology that will allow the model to be populated in the future to include the life cycle cost model for all marine system materials in a naval vessel. The demonstration shows that the cost analysis model was capable of comparing the life cycle cost of alternate materials or alternate designs for the selected system components. This approach allows proposed design features to be examined in detail for their impact on the total cost of ownership of the vessel.
