Abstract
This project focuses on the development of a prototype software system using novel design concepts within a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) environment. The eventual system will provide a number of different software/display tools which could be used by Commanders for the planning of operations, and eventually for the rapid prototyping of various operational scenarios. To start, a review of existing web based GIS systems was conducted to determine whether there were any design concepts already in existence which could be emulated for the prototype system. The results of the review were used to select the software package(s) that formed the basis of the prototype and to develop design concepts for incorporation into the system. As well, a series of high level operational scenarios were developed. One of these was selected for further development and implementation in the prototype software.
