The DRDC Atlantic System Test Bed (STB) is a conceptual framework that incorporates both hardware and software for the purposes of demonstrating and validating concepts and processing schemes consistent with tactical naval operations. For example, reverberation/clutter modelling is used not only in the development of active sonar performance prediction but also is of interest with regard to rapid environmental assessment. This contract work has in part been designed to integrate DRDC Atlantic reverberation (and related) models to the STB and thereby move the STB development closer to operational use. A software interface has been developed, in the C-programming language, that allows object-oriented STB software calling sequences to access the DRDC Acoustic Clutter Library (ACL) of FORTRAN modelling codes. This interface, called the “glue-layer,” also connects to several public-domain, environmental databases thereby giving the ACL access to real ocean environments. Finally, this same interface has been developed in such a way as to link to a Java-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) developed concurrently. The GUI, called jACI (java Acoustic Cluttter Interface), is intended to provide DRDC Atlantic with a standalone clutter modelling and display capability.
