Abstract
This document describes the output derived from Phase 1 of the Analysis of Marine Traffic (AMT) Project, conducted under contract W7714-093795. The primary deliverables generated in this work are a series of spatially-referenced grid-aggregated marine vessel traffic datasets in the vicinity of Canadian waters. These datasets are described in this document in order to foster their use by the Project Authority in subsequent analyses. In addition to a presentation of the results themselves, a detailed discussion is presented of the source data upon which the traffic assessments are based. Finally, a comprehensive account is given of the finalized data processing steps required to develop the raw data into the representation prescribed in the original project Statement of Work. Limitations inherent in the results obtained are described. Suggestions are made regarding areas in which follow-on work may prove particularly beneficial.
