Optimization of CRIPT detector performance

Abstract
The Cosmic Ray Inspection and Passive Tomography (CRIPT) collaboration has constructed a large-scale detector prototype for investigating the use of comic ray muon scattering tomography for Special Nuclear Material (SNM) identification. In order to produce reconstructed images of the highest quality, it is important to ensure that the detector has achieved optimal performance. In this report, the detector operating parameters are investigated, with the goal of optimizing the hit resolution. Furthermore, the results of simple Monte Carlo simulation are presented, which validate the observed geometric acceptance of the detector and give a rough evaluation of the performance of the momentum estimate algorithm.
