Abstract
The Object-Oriented Development and Test System is a prototype environment for the specification, simulation and implementation of object-oriented multiprocessor EW systems. An operational prototype of an integrated OODTS has been designed and implemented. The prototype consists of multitasking and multiprocessing Smalltalk (Actra) which allows high level user interface and knowledge based tasks to communicate with low level time critical tasks in a uniform object-oriented paradigm. We show via the prototype that the actor metaphor and Smalltalk is an exceedingly powerful tool for specifying and implementing multiprocessor real time systems. An interesting aspect of the study is that we know that we also show that a sophisticated embedded development environment can be realized using networks of industrial testbeds and low cost personal workstations.
