Abstract
Computer Security is more than having a disaster/recovery plan or a password control system, and is not limited to sites processing corporate or national secrets. Rather, it is the adoption of policies and procedures which enhance the availability and integrity of a computer system and the information it processes, and hence is part of the good management of any computer site. This overview paper will examine the hows and whys of computer security and make some practical suggestions for implementation of a computer security plan. While not specifically a Multics paper, it will look at how Multics makes overall computer security easier.
