Abstract
Parachutes contaminated with an unknown skin irritant were analysed and it was determined that significant levels of benzoic acid were present. Benzoic acid is a common, naturally occurring skin irritant, found in relatively high concentrations in berries, saps and gums. A gas chromotagram and electron-impact mass spectra are also provided.
