A POLAR NEPHELOMETER FOR SNOWFLAKE PHASE FUNCTION STUDY

Abstract
A polar nephelometer for snowflake phase function study has been designed and developed at Defence Research Establishment Valcartier (DREV). It has been used to measure the phase function of several types of natural falling snow at scattering angles between 10 degrees and 170 degrees. The nephelometer light source is a He-Ne laser. Measurements of individual snowflake phase functions are taken instantaneously by an array of 32 photodiode detectors.
