- Abstract
- The QT28 quench and tempered steel used to fabricate the OBERON Class Submarine pressure hulls were welded originally with a E10016G SMAW electrode. In recent years Canadian practice has changed and three electrodes are used on the pressure hull envelope. E9018M electrodes are used to weld QT28 to QT28, including cladding. E9018M electrodes are used to weld QT28 to HY80 inserts. HY80 inserts and penetrators are welded into larger HY80 inserts with E11018M electrodes. Internal frame attachments are made with E7018 electrodes and external attachments are made with E9018M eletrodes. All electrodes are baked at 425C to reduce their moisture content and a minimum preheat temperature of 120C is employed. Heat inputs do not exceed 2kJ/mm. TRUNCATED
