Abstract
The Agile Magnetron Modulator (AMM) was designed, fabricated and tested in order to prove the feasibility of the design concept and its possible applications in radar and radar simulator fields. The unique design concept incorporates fiber optic technology, a solid state modulator and a hard tube modulator to provide a pulse width agile high voltage modulator capable of driving a wide range of cathode pulsed microwave tubes including magnetrons, klystrons and travelling wave tubes. This type of high power transmitter modulator offers several advantages over other modulator types. It can supply totally random long pulse, short pulse or pulse bursts of any duration within the duty cycle limitations of the magnetron and switch tube. Therefore, providing system level advantages in a multi-spectral environment.
