Abstract
Simulations of complex EW systems are difficult to build and virtually impossible to thoroughly validate. As a consequence, most EW systems engineers tend to regard results derived from simulations as suspect, preferring to rely instead on laboratory testing and field trials for performance evaluations. It is suggested that the real problem may be that traditional simulations do not provide the kind of modelling and analysis tools which the systems engineer really needs. In this paper a prototype for a new kind of EW simulation environment which supports an object-oriented approach to modelling and simulation is described. Some background information will be provided on object-oriented programming, describing the software architecture of the simulation environment, and discussing several examples which illustrate its use.
