Abstract
The Directorate of Land Requirements (DLR), in an effort to assess the usefulness of the NATO Reference Mobility Model (NRMM) in vehicle procurement activities, initiated a study at the Defence Research Establishment Suffield with the following objectives: (1) to determine the difficulty and time required to provide all necessary NRMM input data for a typical wheeled vehicle; (2) to determine the time required to perform an NRMM evaluation; and (3) to establish a wheeled vehicle baseline. The vehicle chosen for this study was the Iltis 4x4 1/4 ton truck. All required vehicle characteristics were obtained within an acceptable time frame with the exception of the pitch-mass-moment of inertia of the sprung mass, which eventually was measured at an American laboratory. The NRMM simulation of the Iltis 4x4 required approximately one month to complete. TRUNCATED
