Abstract
The paper analyzes the impact of the INF Treaty on regional and international security with particular focus on NATO - Warsaw Pact and US - USSR security relationships. It examines the post-INF situation and environment; Canada's role in Alliance security affairs; and the impacts of the treaty on the East-West military balance. The paper outlines the prospects and opportunities for defence and arms control which are open to NATO; suggests the best next steps that might be taken in negotiations; and describes the interrelationships between the several categories and forums for negotiation. A wide range of contributions which Canada could make to security, defence and arms control are set out.
