Abstract
The study was undertaken to investigate the effect of the ground on the return response of buried objects. It is a continuation of the work done previously to compute the "Electromagnetic Response of Artillery Shells". In that work the problem of buried shells, excited by a current carrying loop, located in parallel and above an earth interface was modelled numerically. Since the operating frequency was low, with a fundamental frequency of 500 Hz, the effect of the ground was neglected and the problem was solved by using the impedance boundary conditions, to relate the return response to the material properties of the shell. No attempt was made there to determine the effect of the earth on the computed results.
