Abstract
The report proposes an original methodology for ranking the performance of spatial filters for a number of applications. The methodology makes use of computer-generated test scenes that are applied to the spatial filters under evaluation. Ratios of statistics of the output scenes over that of the input ones give a quantitative measure of the performance of the filters for each scene. The test scenes used for spatial filter evaluation are described, as are the means for obtaining the input and output scene statistics. An example of the evaluation, using the proposed methodology, of six spatial filters for performing point source detection is given.
