A FORTRAN ALGORITHM FOR ESTIMATION OF AZIMUTHAL AND VERTICAL ARRIVAL ANGLES AT A ROTATABLE HORIZONTAL LINE ARRAY

Abstract
A Horizontal Line Array (HLA) is subject to left-right bearing ambiguity and also bearing bias due to non-zero vertical arrival angles. However, if the array is rotated in the horizontal plane to a new orientation, both the ambiguity and the bias may be removed. Observations before and after the rotation along with the rotation measurement may be used to estimate the true bearing and vertical arrival angle. The Fortran program, RAAM, performs this task. Should error estimates on the inputs be available, the program generates corresponding error intervals for the output angles. This Technical Communication documents the Fortran program and associated subroutines; both user instructions and software maintenance information are included.
