- Abstract
- The Ordnance Detection Group at the Defence Research Establishment Suffield has undertaken a research program on the feasibility of remote sensing of minefields. A contract has been let to investigate the use of an image processing system in minefield detection by testing various algorithms and measuring their effectiveness. This report describes the work completed during the first phase of the contract and outlines the goals for the next phase. The main effort of the first phase of the contract was to refine the existing program development tools in an actual programming environment. This lead to several modifications to the software of the image processing system and now allows application programmers to work independent of both hardware and other users. Now specialized image processing algorithms can be quickly implemented and evaluated for effectiveness in minefield detection.
