Abstract
The report documents the design and analysis of the systems and components required for the fabrication and testing of a baseline test rig for the purpose of measuring the steady state maneuvering characteristics of a submarine in a wind tunnel. The major systems include the following: (i) Model including hull, sail, tail planes and rudders; (ii) Internal Force Balance to measure small forces; (iii) Propulsion System; (iv) Mounting/Support System, and (v) Test Instrumentation. The model profile along with the requirements for the different systems were defined by DREA.
