Abstract
Information from the search and rescue data base (SARSTATS) is extracted and compiled into simple tables and graphs in order to provide a global picture of the air side of Canadian search and rescue (SAR) activity in the year 1987. The information, along with the annual SAR statistics summary, can be used as a planning tool for future SAR activities and needs, in the evaluation of operational SAR effectiveness and as an aid in the detection of possible problem areas. The report also provides a test for the completeness of the large SAR data base. It is the first in a two part series of reports dealing with SAR activity and trend analysis of recent SAR incidents.
