Abstract
This is the first paper in a series of three by the Directorate of Manpower Analysis dealing with official languages in the Canadian Forces. In this note a subset of the population of individuals released from the Regular Force - namely the Employable Release population - is examined in terms of its official language characteristics. Comparisons are made with the language profile of the Effective Strength to determine if there exist sufficient bilingual concentrations in the Employable Release population which could supplement the Regular Force if and when required.
