ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND POWER REQUIREMENT FOR AN EHF SATCOM MANPACK TERMINAL

Abstract
A critical factor in the design of a manpack terminal for operation in an Extremely High Frequency (EHF) satellite communication system is the size and weight of the overall terminal. A major contribution to this factor comes from the power supply subsystem. The size and weight of this subsystem greatly depends upon the power and energy requirements of the different components of the terminal. Presented in this report are different operating scenarios in which the communication model and the interaction between the different subsystems are modified to obtain a configuration where power and energy consumption are minimized while maintaining an acceptable communication service.
