Abstract
The report discusses land based conventional tactical radio direction finding systems used in determining the direction of origin of narrowband (100 kHz or less) radio signals (AM, FM, CW and SSB) in the 30 to 1000 MHz frequency band. These systems are examined from both the theoretical and practical points of view. Examples of actual systems and the problems encountered (and solutions where appropriate) under operational conditions are also given. Finally manufacturers specifications and how they relate to actual system operation and systems comparisons are also discussed.
