Abstract
The purpose of the report is two-fold: (1) verify the algorithms used in a previous report ("Study of Advanced Direction Finding Algorithms", MCS-8828) and (2) compare the performance of the previous report (MUSIC, ESPRIT, and Thermal Noise) with a conventional phase interferometry method in a multipath environment. The algorithms used in the previous report were found to be correct. The advanced direction finding algorithms did not perform better than the conventional algorithm in a multipath environment. ESPRIT performed worse. An extension to MUSIC to a multipath algorithm involving a multidimensional search was tested. It gave considerably better performance than the single ray algorithms for 1 and 2 multipath. Its performance was similar for 3-ray multipath. For more than 3-ray multipath it did not work at all.
