Abstract
In this report, the design and operation of the frequency hopping pattern generator is addressed. This generator is used as the driving unit of the frequency synthesizers for the DREO EHF Satcom payload and ground terminal simulators. The generator design is based on a 24-stage linear feedback shift register producing pseudo-random (PN) sequences of maximal length. It is designed to allow a rapid synchronization of the output sequence to any given time of day, knowing the PN sequence code and the initial conditions. Theoretical considerations as well as schematic diagrams are given. A computer program is used to initialize hardware circuitry which generates the output sequence corresponding to the given time of day.
