Abstract
Guidelines for the application of Human Engineering Design and Evaluation of Computer Based Control Systems have been prepared. The guidelines are intended for Designers, Human Engineering Specialists, and Project Managers. The report discusses the need for, and approach to, Human Engineering in the development of computer-based systems. It discusses the use of operator task analysis to the development of the display and control system, and provides recommendations for display selection and design. The latter are cross-referenced to the US standard 1472C (Human Engineering Design Criteria For Military Systems, Equipment & Facilities). The guidelines for evaluation include Assessment Relative to Human Engineering Standards & Principles, Measurement of Operator Performance, and Collection of Operator Opinions.
