Abstract
Describes the construction, operation and intended use of two complete DND SATCOM terminals which are capable of point-to-point demonstration communications with each other over the Ku-band Canadian domestic satellite ANIK C-2. The two terminals consist of a fixed and a mobile unit. They are built to a commercial standard in order to maximize the opportunity for DND to gain benefit from the existing Canadian domestic SATCOM technology. The fixed terminal is assembled in a small shelter, and uses a 12 foot antenna system. The mobile unit is contained in a small trailer-mounted shelter, complete with an integral, steerable 6ft. antenna system and DND message centre. This unit is suitable for vehicle towing and/or convenient transportation in a single C130 Hercules aircraft. The two terminals operate together to provide a secure point-to-point full duplex 19.2 kb/s multiplexed data circuit over the ANIK C-2 satellite.
