Abstract
The report documents the functional specification of a packet switching device. The specifications are written in the language m-Verdi and will be used with the m-EVES verification system for m-Verdi. The switching device is patterned after an Internet gateway, the type of which is used in the ARPANET network family. The main function of a gateway is to switch datagrams; this is similar to the function of a packet switching device which is to switch packets. Both packets and datagrams are self contained pieces of information which are the basic information exchange unit among computers in a network.
