Abstract
We constructed, in 1967, a sea ice radar at the top of Mt. Mombetsu on the outskirts of Membetsu City. Since then, sea ice radars have been set up at Abashiri (Cape Notoro) in 1968 and at Esashi (Mt. Tokushibetsu) in 1969, thus completing a radar network for drift ice observation, and we are now able to observe in detail the drift ice distribution withingn a range of 50-70 km off the Okhotsk Sea cost of Hokkaido.
