AMMONIA CHEMICAL IONIZATION AND ELECTRON IMPACT MASS SPECTRA OF SOMAN AND RELATED ORGANOPHOSPHORUS COMPOUNDS

Abstract
Soman and six related organophosphorus compounds were characterized during capillary column GC-MS analysis under electron impact and, ammonia and deuterated ammonia chemical ionization. All compounds exhibited significant EI fragmentation ions, but did not contain molecular ion information critical to the verification of these compounds. Complementary molecular ion information, in the form of (M + X)+ and (M+NX4)+ (where X=H during ammonia CI and X=D during deuterated ammonia CI) pseudo-molecular ions, was obtained for all compounds during CI analysis. CI fragmentations were typical of those observed for similar organophosphorus compounds, with the exception of tertiary butyl radical losses from several even-electron CI ions.
