Abstract
In their 1989 paper "An Analysis of Temporally Overlapping Tasks", Pashler and Johnston propose a postponement model of information processing. There are difficulties, however in reconciling their hypothesis with their results and with what is already known about information processing in similar situations. The paper looks at the problems with Pashler and Johnston's model when used to interpret the results of their experiments and goes on to examine alternative hypotheses which seem to provide more consistent prediction models for the results obtained.
