Abstract
Roger Penrose (the Emperor's New Mind, 1989) proposes that a physical theory -- 'correct quantum gravity' -- may explain how it is that people can perceive. The present commentary sketches two reasons that a theory of physics does not provide a ready-made psychology of perception. The intentionality of vision is identified as a primary explanatory goal of vision research.
