Abstract
The study focuses on methodology for applying Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics (TREE) hardening to an existing electronic subsystem that was not originally designed to withstand the effects of nuclear radiation. A radio set, AN/PRC-77 was selected as the candidate for analysis. The effects of transient ionizing radiation, neutrons, and total ionizing dose were evaluated and recommendations for mitigating deleterious effects are provided. These consist of identification of components requiring replacement, addition of current limiting where required, and implementation of power switching.
