- Abstract
- The PATVAS and VASPAT computer programs have been upgraded. These programs represent the forward and inverse translator programs which interface the general purpose modelling program PATRAN with the linear finite element analysis program VAST. The upgrades include the development of a capability to translate boundary condition and skewed coordinate data. Load data translation has been improved not only with respect to edge loads for the thick/thin shell element but also with the extension of dynamic load option to periodic load specifications. The generalized algorithms to permit translation of degenerate forms of the 20-noded solid element have also been provided. A framework has been established for automatic translation of finite element models between VAST and alternate programs, such as ADINA. Different methods for specification of physical property data are identified and demonstrated for the case of a stiffened plate.
