Abstract
The final report describes the results of the study on detonation transition sponsored by DRES and carried out by the Shock Wave Physics Group in the Mechanical Engineering Department at McGill University, Montreal. The duration of the research program under the terms of the contract was from April 1, 1987 to August 31, 1990. As outlined in the original technical proposal, the global objective of the research program was "to gain an understanding of flame acceleration and transition from deflagration to detonation in combustible gaseous mixtures, with particular emphasis on high speed photography employing schlieren optics".
