Abstract
The report contains a state-of-the-art literature review of fatigue analysis under random loads and structural reliability. Both fatigue initiation and propagation analysis techniques were covered. A brief introduction to the basic concepts of structural reliability theory is given so that the review can be easily comprehended. Applications to marine structures in general and ship structures in particular were included in the citations. The extensive review work provided a sound footing for making recommendations to the scientific authority concerning important steps to be taken in the provision of an in-house capability for random fatigue analysis and structural reliability assessment of naval ships.
