Abstract
DREA has sponsored investigations with the objective of developing a capability for all position gas metal arc welding (GMAW) of submarine steels. The previous investigations have encouraged the development of two Canadian welding technologies: the T.I.M.E. process and the Frequency Modulated pulsed current add-on Regulator. The objectives for the present investigation were to conduct an evaluation of the welding procedures based on these technologies as well as the feasibility of implementing these in a production fabricaton environment. A second equally important objective was to examine the toughness of the welded joints.
