Abstract
The effects of several drugs on the ninhydrin positive substances of four areas of the rat brain have been studied. The drugs employed were BZ, LSD.25 and scopolamine (hallucinatory) and chlorpromazine and BOL.148 (non-hallucinatory). Concentration changes in several amino acids presented different patterns for the five drugs. In addition changes were noted in several peaks which have been identified as peptides. A proposal is made, based on changes in concentration of brain peptides, to account for the action of the hallucinatory drugs on animal behavior.
