Abstract
A preliminary survey of Bowie Seamount was made to gain experience in using techniques required for instrument placement and retrieval on seamounts. The specific objectives of the operation were: to obtain a bathymetric contour diagram of Bowie Seamount summit area, to obtain a geodetic position of a point on the seamount surface using satellite navigation, and to send scuba divers down to the seamount for sample collection and inspection. All objectives were achieved and conclusions drawn.
