Abstract
The feasibility of using a high resolution FM radar at X-band for measuring the depth of snow and the thickness of fresh water ice was investigated in a series of laboratory and field measurements. A resolution of less than one foot was achieved with the simple radar assembled for the measurements, and it should be possible to reduce this to a few inches in a carefully designed radar.
