Abstract
Independent storage and retrieval systems based on either micro- graphic or computer techniques have been extensively used. A different approach is to assemble a flexible hybrid system in which bulk storage is in microform, while dictionaries used in searching are stored in a computerized data bank. The economics, response time and search methods of the Defence Scientific Information Service (DSIS) retrospective search system are examined.
