Abstract
Four commercial B4C powders were hot-pressed between 1500 and 2300oC at 3000 and 5000 psi for various periods of time. The density and modulus of rupture of the dense B4C specimens were studied as a function of the hot-pressing conditions. Experimental relations between the density and the hot-pressing conditions and between the modulus of rupture and these conditions were obtained. Microstructure of specimens was studied by optical and electron microscopy.
