Abstract
The performance model developed under C-CORE’s contribution to the Design of an Integrated AIS Sensor on a Radar Satellite (DIASRS) Technology Demonstration Program project (C-CORE, 2013) was updated with new concept of operations (con-ops) and was re-tuned with performance curves from Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) – Ottawa Research Centre. The new con-ops and tuning resulted in an overall drop in the probability of detection (POD) over the ten areas of interest for ships in the automatic identification system (AIS) field of view for at least five minutes, compared to the model run during the DIASRS project. Drops in POD were expected from the changes as the new con-ops results in some ships being observed for a shorter time and the re-tuned model includes the antenna pattern for the AIS that will be implemented on the RADARSAT Constellation Mission. The actual antenna pattern results in lower performance than the ideal situation considered during the DIASRS project.
