Abstract
A central issue in minehunting is the accuracy with which the coordinates of a mine-like object can be determined. This survey process is done in stages, first locating the ship and then locating the object with respect to the sonar. If side-scan sonar is used, there is the additional stage of determining the vector between the ship and the towfish.
