Abstract
In this memo we propose a multi-hop side-channel in mobile ad hoc networks for providing security services. This proposal incorporates and integrates a number of existing ideas, such as dispersity routing, multi-topology routing, traffic shaping, covert channels, and security probes, into a Covert System Monitoring Function for mobile wireless communications security. We argue that security can be provisioned for relatively little cost in terms of bandwidth and present a number of use-case scenarios that demonstrate the relevance of the proposal. This area of research has the potential to feed into a number of capabilities worth pursuing for the Canadian Armed Forces and its coalition partners.
